Say g'day to Mike “@mikeyteetimes” Rodenbush, the newest legend sliding in with the Birds crew. If you’ve caught his sunset rounds, smooth swings, or easygoing style, you already know why we’re stoked to have him repping the brand. Mike’s got that laid-back, good-energy golf vibe that just fits. He plays fast, dresses sharp, and carries enough positive mileage to power a weekend road trip. He’s got takes on ball numbers, a short game that’s either wizardry or chaos depending on the day, and a post-round routine that usually lands somewhere between Chipotle and whatever the boys get up to next.
1. What’s your idea of a proper golf day? The course, the crew, the conditions, and what’s happening after the round?
Give me a desert course any day: firm fairways, mountain backdrops, and that dry air that makes the ball fly forever. I love a late-afternoon tee time that rolls right into golden hour. There’s nothing better than those last few holes as the sun drops and you’re chasing shadows with your buddies.
After the round, it’s usually a Chipotle run or a good dinner somewhere. Ideally Thursday through Saturday, so there’s still a little weekend energy in the air. That’s when the stories, the chirps, and the laughs carry on long after the last putt drops.
2. You’ve been rocking Birds gear! What’s your go-to fit when you want to look good?
The Tokyo Two-Tone Snapback has been my go-to lately! It’s clean, goes with everything, and I’ve been getting a ton of compliments on it. Honestly, it’s hard to pick favorites because the hats are all so good. My favorite seems to change every week.
For polos, I’ve been loving the Jazzy Polo. It’s got that cool, retro vibe. And the Bel Air Quarter Zip Polo with the zipper collar and stretchable waistline. It looks like it’s tucked in, but it’s not, which is a game-changer.
Off the course, I’m usually in the United Walk Shorts. Super clean and comfortable. But when I’m playing, the Good Weather Walk Shorts are unbeatable. The stretchy material and waistband with belt loops make them easily the best golf shorts I’ve ever worn.
3. Be honest, what’s the one part of your game that keeps you humble?
Short game, 100%. Some days I look like I could give a short-game clinic, and other days I look like I just picked up a wedge for the first time. There’s nothing that humbles you faster than a three-footer that suddenly feels like a 10-footer when someone says, “Go ahead and putt that.” My heart rate spikes higher there than it ever does off the tee.
4. Every golfer’s got a superstition or weird ritual. What’s yours? Or what’s one you secretly judge others for?
I’m weirdly superstitious about the number on my golf balls. I’ll use 1s, 2s, or 3s, but never an 8. I can’t explain it, but something about seeing an 8 just feels like bad karma. Maybe it’s because it’s two circles stacked on each other? Double bogey energy.
5. If you could play one course for the rest of your life, which one’s getting the nod? And who’s on the tee with you?
Tough call, but probably Cabot Cliffs in Nova Scotia or We-Ko-Pa in Arizona. Both have that perfect mix of views, challenge, and good vibes. My dream foursome would be my dad and my brother, Jon. My dad’s the one who got me into the game, and Jon’s really good! Like, annoying good. So it’s usually a mix of competition, trash talk, and family bonding. And if I could round it out with one more, it’d be Tiger Woods. The guy I idolized growing up and the reason I fell in love with the game in the first place.
6. What’s your post-round move? Straight to the range, straight to the pub, or straight to the couch?
If it’s a morning or midday round and I didn’t love how I played, I’ll head straight to the range to work it out. But if it’s a sunset round, I’m all about the unwind! Usually Chipotle and the couch.
Or if it’s with buddies, we’ll keep it rolling with dinner and a game on somewhere. Basically, the round might end, but the vibes shouldn’t.
